Beacon Hill Park is the most beautiful park in Victoria and was originally called Meeacan, meaning belly in Salish Language, the name was given by the community of First Nations. Beacon Hill Park is a huge park that covers almost 62 acres, this park is the venue for many of Vancouver Island events, like the Vancouver Luminara Community Lantern Festival is held at this Beacon Hill Park.
It was in the year 1956 that the world’s largest totempole was made and is about 160 feet tall, the pole was raised during a ceremony that had lots of prominent people gracing the occasion, the park is the natural habitat for a variety of birds and animals such as squirrels and swans.
